HAND SURGERY
Hand surgery has made dramatic advances
and is used to treat degenerative disorders, birth defects, carpal tunnel,
wrist injury, and fractures of the hand and fingers.
Risks and Complications
As with any surgery some of the
risks and complications are: bleeding, infection, swelling, poor
healing, loss of feeling or motion, and blood clots.
Procedures
Grafting – the transfer of skin, bone, nerves or other tissue
from a healthy part of your body.
Flap – moving the skin along
with the underlying fat, blood vessels and muscle from a healthy part
of the body to the injured part.
Replantation – restoring
accidentally amputated fingers or hands. This is an extremely
delicate procedure.
Post-Surgical Care
Often with hand injuries physical
therapy is necessary and ongoing follow up care is needed. Pain
medication is provided as needed by the physician.
