ABDOMINOPLASTY
Abdominoplasty, also known as the “tummy tuck”, is a major surgical
procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen.
This procedure helps to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall and
reduce the protruding appearance of the abdomen.
Surgical Procedure
The surgical procedure generally
takes from 2 to 4 hours to complete. The surgery is done as an
outpatient procedure and will leave a permanent scar from hip to hip
along the bikini line. Abdominoplasty is performed under a general
anesthetic, and the patient will need a driver for transportation following
the surgery.
Risk and Complications
As with any surgical procedure, abdominoplasty does have some risks,
which are: bleeding, infection, swelling, blood clots and keloid scarring.
Complications from your surgery can decrease if you use a board certified
surgeon who specializes in cosmetic and plastic surgery and has been
granted privileges at surgery centers and hospitals to perform this
procedure.
Post Surgery
Expect 3 to 5 days of moderate to
severe pain. You will have a post surgical garment which you must
wear until your physician specifies otherwise. Limited exercise
is encouraged to help reduce swelling, and fluid collection. No
hot tubs, bathing or extended showers will be allowed until released
by the surgeon.
