LIPOSUCTION
Liposuction is a procedure to help shape and enhance one’s appearance.
This is not a weight loss procedure. The best candidates are those
who are within a relatively normal weight but have excess fat in areas
which cannot be reduced with weight reduction or exercise.
The liposuction procedure is performed as an outpatient surgery and
varies in surgery time depending on the areas being treated. You can
expect your total stay at the surgical facility to take several hours.
This procedure is done under either a local or general anesthesia depending
upon the area treated.
Liposuction can be performed on various body areas including: chin,
hips, neck, thighs, abdomen, under arms, and breast areas.
Risks and Complications
As with any surgery, liposuction does offer risks such as: bleeding,
infection, and bruising, swelling, and fluid collection. You can
reduce your risks by following orders of the practicing physician.
Also you should choose a physician who has been granted privileges to
perform this procedure at a hospital or surgical center and has the
credentialing of a board certified plastic surgeon.
Post Operative
You can expect moderate to severe pain for 3 to 5 days following the
procedure. A patient must wear a post surgical garment and avoid
hot baths, hot tubs, and extended showers until the surgeon specifies
otherwise. Expect to return to semi normal activities in about
1 to 2 weeks.
